Understand the landscape
Research state authorization requirements, the difference between institutional and programmatic accreditation, and what running an accredited midwifery school entails at the operational level.
Contact MEAC early
Before investing in program development, connect with MEAC's Director of Accreditation. Early conversations save time and help you understand what the standards will require of your institution.
Complete Prospective Applicant Training
Every school must complete MEAC's four-stage Prospective Applicant Training before submitting a Part I Application. This includes self-study, a live session, a readiness assessment, and an individual meeting.
Apply for state authorization
Most states require authorization before you can operate as an educational institution. Requirements vary significantly. Some states have specific rules for midwifery schools.
Submit your Part I Application
Applications are accepted in February and August. Up to two applicants per cycle are selected. After approval, you'll receive materials for the self-evaluation.
Build toward accreditation
Complete the self-evaluation, host a site visit, and receive an accreditation decision. The full initial process typically takes 1–2 years from Part I submission.
