Outreach to Educators Project

In 2004, the MEAC Board applied for and received a $30,000 two-year grant from the Daniels Foundation with the hopes of launching an organization which might bring midwifery educators together. The goals of this project were to improve direct-entry midwifery education, to create a forum for discussion of issues relevant to midwifery educators, to build a supportive network for existing schools, and to guide schools toward accreditation if they so desired.

The project was launched in June of 2005 with the hiring of a coordinator and is currently publishing a newsletter ("Giving Birth to Midwives") and building the foundation of a national Association of Midwifery Educators (AME).
